is owned by an illustrious Sauternes family, but credit must go to René Médeville for having made a name for himself as a great maker of Sauternes, through the use of long ageing techniques which helped forge the reputation of Château Gilette. Succeeding him in 1959, his son, Christian, further improved the ageing of the famous older vintages with great success. He enlarged his estates, incorporating Château Respide-Médeville
, and soon established his reputation as being not only an eminent wine technician, but also an aesthete of Sauternes, that very special sweet wine.
Christian Médeville oversaw to his 3 domaines - Château Gilette, Château Les Justices and Château Respide-Médeville – with great devotion and his efforts bore fruit. In 2004, his daughter, Julie, and her husband, Xavier Gonet, a winemaker from a very old family of wine growers from Champagne's Côte des Blancs, took over from Christian. The family's fascinating wine adventure continues with Gonet-Médeville Champagnes, born in 2000 from 7.5 hectares of Premiers and Grands Crus vineyards.
