is located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on fine, deep gravels in the communes of Macau and Ludon, near Bordeaux. The vineyards of Château Cantemerle
, Grand Cru Classé, are subjected to multiple influences, producing complex, balanced and refined wines, just like their exceptional terroir
The soil of Château Cantemerle is sand and gravel. This gravel, which has resulted from ancient erosion from the Pyrenees by the Garonne River is one of the essential ingredients in a quality terroir. These are poor soils, so the vine must “suffer" in order to produce concentrated grapes. Moreover, this land made of sand and pebbles drains well and actively participates in the ripening of the grapes because it reflects the sun's rays and, at night, preserves the heat accumulated during the day. The grape varieties planted in Château Cantemerle’s 87 hectares of vineyards are mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Produced mainly from young vines, Les Allées de Cantemerle is the second wine of Château Cantemerle, undergoing the same ageing process as the first wine.
