Jean-Charles Abbatucci's Domaine Comte Abbatucci
is in the department of Corse-du-Sud, in the Taravo Valley (near the prehistoric site of Filitosa). The estate's 18 hectares (44 acres) of hillside vineyards sit on a soil of granitic arena.
A fascinating and passionate vigneron, Jean-Charles works his vineyards entirely biodynamically. His desire to express the quintessence of each terroir and each grape variety (of which he has an incredible, rare collection) drives his ceaseless effort to be closer to nature and better understand it. This method helps regenerate his soil and vines: all vineyard work is timed according to the moon's cycle and the time of day, and the only treatments used are plant and mineral preparations. From the living earth, with full respect for the environment, Domaine Comte Abbatucci produces healthy, balanced fruit that yields wines that fully express the Corsican scrub known as maquis.
Domaine Comte Abbatucci offers red, white, and rosé wines under the Ajaccio appellation and as Corsican table wine, whose quality and character do honor to the special terroirs found on this island. The harvest is entirely manual, and fermentation is driven solely by indigenous yeasts.
