The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence AOC
extends its vineyards over almost 3,500 hectares whose appellation area is located in the western section of Provence’s limestone lands. The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation covers a territory stretching from the Durance River to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the Rhône Valley in the west to the Sainte-Victoire Mountain in the East.
The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence wine appellation has a Mediterranean climate, influenced by the Mistral, the cold, dry prevailing North wind. It enjoys an exceptional amount of sunshine of 2,900 hours per year and the low precipitation falls mainly in the spring and autumn.
The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence was eventually granted AOC status by decree of 24 December 1985 in recognition of the quality improvement work and perseverance of the wine producers. Deeply rooted in Provence and contributing to its fame, the wines of the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence are now appreciated by wine lovers around the world. This is particularly due to the quality of the wines from producers such as Château Revelette, Château Vignelaure and Château Calissanne.
