Mount Pleasant wine
In 1921, Maurice O'Shea, who graduated in viticulture and oenology from the University of Montpellier, persuaded his mother to buy a 16.3 hectare estate in the Hunter Valley, which he named Mount Pleasant. A few years later, the McWilliams family, already famed for its production of fortified wines, invested in the property and then bought it outright in 1941. Maurice O'Shea remained its cellar master until his death in 1959.

Since the passing of Maurice O'Shea, 3 cellar masters have worked on the estate and all have contributed to building and perpetuating the Mount Pleasant reputation.

Mount Pleasant has 5 separate vineyards: Lovedale (31.1 ha), Rosehill (27 ha), Estate (29.5 ha), Old Paddock (0.74 ha) and Old Hill (3.1 ha). Most of the production is Syrah (Shiraz) and Semillon, both internationally recognised varietals.
