, which is located in the village of Villenave d'Ornon, at the gates of Bordeaux, was purchased in 1968 by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research. Under the direction of Dominique Forget the property is rising once again to the level of its peers in the ranking of Graves Grands Crus Classés.
Comprised of 19 hectares (47 acres) planted to black grapes and 6 hectares (15 acres) to white, the property is a vast field of viticultural experimentation, research, and production. The terroir is made up of a brow of gravel, a clay slope on limestone bedrock, and a sand-clay zone. Eco-friendly lutte raisonnée practices are followed here, and only the best techniques are employed in the cellar.
The wines of Château Couhins are known for their excellent quality. The ample, vivacious white grand cru produced here features a brilliant bouquet of spring flowers, and the château's red has supple tannins, refined aromas, and great finesse on the nose and palate.
