is a family winery in the heart of Burgundy's wine country, in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges, roughly halfway between Dijon and Beaune. It has gradually grown to include parcels in the region's greatest vineyards: Gevrey-Chambertin, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Mercurey, among others. As is common in Burgundy, the property is quite fragmented, with an average plot size of only one hectare (2.5 acres); as a result, each wine is produced in very limited quantities.
Domaine Faiveley works 10 hectares (25 acres) of grand cru vineyards and almost 25 hectares (62 acres) in premier crus. A number of their vineyards are monopolies, among them Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos des Issarts, Beaune Premier Cru Clos de l'Ecu, and Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru. Every step of production is executed with the greatest care, from the rigorous and respectful work in the vineyard through the traditional vinification and élevage. Domaine Faiveley is unquestionably one of the great producers in Burgundy today.
