Domaine de la Croix Senaillet
sits in the heart of the cru vineyards of the Mâconnais, not far from the famous prehistoric site at the Rock of Solutré, in the village of Davayé. Established in 1969 by Maurice Martin, the estate was passed in 1992 to his sons, Richard and Stéphane, who have brought fresh ideas to the operation while maintaining the single-minded dedication to quality.
This property of 26 hectares (64 acres) is made up of a mosaic of more than 50 parcels, all of which are within the Grand Site de France of Solutré Pouilly Vergisson. The vineyards are planted exclusively to Chardonnay, with an average vine age of 40 years. Most of these vines face the rising sun on the gentle slopes that are an extension of the eastern face of the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson. They enjoy a soil of clayey limestone of the middle and late Jurassic, alternating with clayey silt that flows down the hillside in runoff.
Domaine de la Croix Senaillet is certified organic. Harvesting at peak ripeness is one of the most important challenges in producing top-quality wine, and the grapes are gently carried to the press on a conveyor belt. The slow, direct pressing is achieved with low pressure to obtain the purest must (juice) possible, fully conveying the aromatic finesse of the Chardonnay grape. Before bottling, all wines of Domaine de la Croix Senaillet are matured on their lees for 10 months, giving them roundness and greater complexity.
