Located in southern Ardèche, in Gropierres, Château de la Selve
, was in the past a fortified house, at the Empire's frontier (13th century) and then of France' kingdom, that has been owned by Chazallon
family since 1990. Today the vineyard is divided between the winery and holiday cottages in order to welcome customers for an entire discovery.
In 2002, Benoît Chazallon after getting graduated at Ecole de Beaune, decided to join the family company to put his own touch by re-organising the vineyard, with « the will to daily work living wines, with delicacy and high freshness, pure expression of terroirs ». On this special place, the natural environment shows a great potential for wine production, including the sun, fresh nights, wild landscapes, limestone soils, garrigue, hummus, truffle... The goal here : to let the terroir express what it has, Benoit Chazallon knows it is very important to preserve the living into the earth. He decided to work for the organic and biodynamy certification in 2002. In 2012 his award of Discovery of the year by La Revue du Vin de France, a well-known specialised press magazine, recognised his labour.
Château de la Selve produces on 38 hectares of IGP Coteaux de l'ARdèche, five different varieties : for red wines, grenache, cinsault, syrah and cabernet-sauvignon, and for white wines
