came about in 2001 following the meeting of Jean-Luc Thunevin, owner of Château Valandraud in Saint-Emilion with Jean-Roger Calvet, a young wine grower from Maury in the Roussillon. Initially small in size, Domaine Thunevin Calvet has now grown to 60 hectares of vineyards under production. Domaine Calvet-Thunevin is located in the Maury appellation and its vineyards are planted in a soil which is composed mainly of schistose marl, with some parcels of clay-limestone and granite.
The plantings at Domaine Calvet-Thunevin
consists mainly of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, Mourvèdre plus and a few other varieties. They strive to grow the vines organically, without the use of chemical weed killers, using treatments that have the least impact on the environment. At Domaine Calvet-Thunevin
harvesting is carried out by hand with sorting in both the vineyards and the winery. The wines are aged either in concrete tank or in barrels, depending on the end wine.
In 2008, Calvet-Thunevin Domaine
built a new winery, incorporating the most modern solutions in terms of ecology and providing itself with an efficient tool for ensuring the quality of its Côtes du Roussillon Villages A.O.C, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes and Maury wines.
