Notes: RVF 17/20, Gault Millau 16/20
“A very ‘natural’ Pinot Gris, with a nose of exotic fruits and roasted notes. A beautifully structured palate, with freshness, a lovely touch of acidity, and a long finish.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - Gault Millau). The estate owns one of its finest terroirs on the Zinnkoepflé, which takes its name “Tête de soleil” (Sun’s Head) from its full southern exposure.

Rated estate (2024 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Upon returning to the estate in 1999, Matthieu Boesch quickly decided to make the transition to organic and biodynamic farming, earning certification as early as 2006. However, while these sustainable practices are one thing, it took more time for the wines to find their balance in the glass—for the added acidity and tension to develop and harmonize over time. For the past two vintages, we’ve found that this is now the case. Good news!

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

As ardent advocates of biodynamics for over a decade, Matthieu and his wife Marie represent the eleventh generation of the Léon Boesch estate, located in the heart of the Vallée Noble. Here, the Zinnkoepflé grand cru is now dedicated to Gewürztraminer, with the aim of establishing it as a benchmark for a dry, full-bodied style. The estate has been practicing biodynamic agriculture since 2000, and the winery inaugurated in Westhalten in 2010 is a model of bioclimatic design. The wines possess depth and best express the terroirs of the region.

Review by Mr. FREDERIC B. Posted on April 2, 2016

December 2011: A beautiful straw-yellow color; a concentrated wine with powerful acidity and alcohol. Already very good, but will really come into its own in a few years. Keep it. In December 2015: a disappointment; the wine has lost its acidity and become flat, lacking in structure.
