Rating: Robert Parker 94/100, RVF 16.5/20
Clos Windsbuhl is situated on a small 6-hectare hill overlooking the village of Hunawihr and benefits from a late-ripening climate enhanced by a limestone terroir that warms slowly. The 2005 late harvest is a nearly magical vintage for this terroir, delivering a highly aromatic nectar with notes of acacia honey, apricot, wax, flowers, and the minerality typical of Windsbuhl. A superbly crafted Gewurztraminer VT!

Eye
A beautiful, deep, golden-yellow color
Nose
powerful floral and ripe fruit notes—a true essence of Windsbuhl!
Palate
It is comforting on the nose. The attack, though powerful, is very round and smooth. The botrytis here is responsible for a beautiful richness that blends with the terroir’s minerality.

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2024 guide): 5* Stars (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the estate:
For three decades, this estate has been a model of Alsatian viticulture, telling the story of the Humbrecht family. Léonard, the founder, was a visionary who acquired the region’s finest terroirs, including the famous Rangen. Olivier, his son, who brilliantly introduced the principles of biodynamics as early as the 1990s. And today, Pierre-Émile, who joined the estate during the very challenging 2021 vintage, continues their legacy, particularly with the latest acquisitions on the Sommerberg.

Wine rated (2008 guide) 94/100 (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
Fascinating notes of green tea, candied citrus, passion fruit, and lychee in this 2005 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive, almost as if it were a botrytised Sauvignon Blanc. A pure blend of honeyed richness and intense spice, with vibrant mineral flavors. It will gain complexity over the next quarter-century.

Wine rated (2010 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2024 guide) 4*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the estate:
An tireless ambassador for his wines and the region, Olivier Humbrecht—the first Frenchman to earn the title of Master of Wine—has long understood the importance of vineyard work. He converted the estate to biodynamic farming in 1999 and is one of its leading advocates, serving as president of the Biodyvin label. This approach has allowed him to avoid botrytis and reduce alcohol levels. The wines have evolved over the years and now exhibit a decidedly dry style, with the large casks aging them several meters underground. Like all great Alsace wines, they reach their full potential after a few years or decades of aging. The Clos Windsbuhl is a must-try, and the Rangen de Thann grows in prominence with time. Pierre-Emile, Olivier’s son, has just joined the estate. The excellence of this production, respected by all, allows this iconic property to enter the pantheon of our guide with a fourth star.
