"Quartz continues to be one of the finest expressions of Chénas. Slightly marked by the vegetal notes typical of this year, it nevertheless offers high-quality fruit, reflected in its basket of blue fruits and peony aromas. The palate is caressing, with velvety, sapid tannins. A real treat." (Le Guide RVF)

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 90/100
3-star rating (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About wine:
A slight reduction that gives it a slightly animalistic character. It will need to be decanted to restore its fruitiness and natural richness. Precise and flavorful, but a little too conventional.
About the estate:
A leading figure in Beaujolais in general and Morgon in particular, Dominique Piron, now joined by his partner Julien Révillon, has developed a solid range of Beaujolais wines. Seven crus are represented across more than 100 hectares, with a logical majority of Morgons. With a refined style and expressive noses, while retaining the stylistic signature of their origin, the estate's wines are all successful.

About the estate:
Heir to 14 generations of winegrowers, Dominique Piron handed over the reins of the family estate to Julien Revillon, his partner since 2013, in 2020. Revillon now manages around 50 hectares, divided between his own vineyards and grapes purchased for the wine merchant side of the business.

About wine:
Quartz continues to be one of Chénas' finest expressions. Slightly marked by the vegetal notes typical of this year, it nevertheless offers high-quality fruit, expressed through a basket of blue fruits and peonies. The palate is caressing, with velvety, savory tannins. A real treat.
About the estate:
Julien Revillon, assisted by his talented oenologist Pierre Meunier, continues Dominique Piron's work with consistency and panache. The duo is assisted by vineyard manager Thibaud Lemaître, who is essential for overseeing an estate covering 90 hectares. Their joint efforts have improved the quality of the grapes, and the selective vineyard management they have implemented is beginning to bear fruit. We are impressed by the consistency of the range and its cornerstones: spontaneous fruit, sweetness, and the precise definition of each vintage.

About wine:
Nose of crushed pine needles. Spicy, tight tannins, but not drying at all. They are beautifully choreographed, seeming to hold the bright black fruit lightly in a spiral grip. An underlying note of stone and intensity, like crushed black marble and graphite. Long, fine, and fluted. (TC)

Discover this vintage, which combines dynamic freshness with the crispness of tart, slightly spicy fruit. The palate is straightforward and full-bodied with fine, mature, dense tannins and a smooth texture, while the medium-length finish is taut with a slightly sharp mineral note. This lovely Chénas paired perfectly with braised beef cheek Burgundy style. Rating = 4.1.

Review and opinion by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on 03/01/2025
Medium-deep ruby red with orange rim. On the nose, red fruit, raspberry, and strawberry. Also earthy notes with green herbs. Pure, honest grape and terroir aromas. On the palate, soft but also crisp red fruit with that lovely raspberry and red berry acidity. Followed by earthy notes and spiciness. Soft tannins, substance, grip, character, and length. Indeed, a very nice Chénas. Better on the second day (after some aeration) than straight from the bottle. So decanting is recommended. Score: 16/20
