The 2009 vintage was rated: Bettane & Desseauve 16/20 (Enjoyable now), RVF 15/20
This Morgon is the flagship wine of Jean-Marc Burgaud’s estate and accounts for the majority of production. The long maceration of whole grapes produces a powerful wine that refines with age. You’ll need to be patient for a while before it reveals its full power. A great wine for aging!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2023 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
After earning his degree in viticulture and oenology, Jean-Marc Burgaud settled in Morgon on the Côte de Py in 1989. Today he owns 17 hectares across four appellations: Beaujolais-Villages red and white, Régnié, and Morgon, with the latter accounting for 11.80 hectares. Jean-Marc Burgaud is a discreet winemaker, but one need only mention his name in the vineyards to quickly realize that his reputation precedes him.

About the estate:
For several years running, I have observed that Jean-Marc Burgaud is a winemaker at the top of his game, and the success with which he has risen to the challenges of the 2021 vintage is further proof of this. These are some of the most delicious wines produced in the region today, and they are all the better for the fact that Burgaud has abandoned new oak in favor of used wood and is pursuing a gentler extraction than in the past, with his semi-classical method—carbonic macerations lasting 7 to 15 days depending on the cuvée. And there is only a single bottling of each wine, resulting in a rare consistency, even across his 4.3 hectares in Beaujolais-Lantignié (one of the region’s best values, by the way).

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
Since founding his estate in 1989, Jean-Marc Burgaud has become a staple in our guide. From his apprenticeship in Burgundy, he has adopted the practice of producing single-vineyard wines, aging that sometimes extends over two winters, and destemming tailored to the vintage and the wine. His winemaking always lends a velvety character to the Gamay, shaped by barrel aging (very little new oak) tailored to each vineyard (most of which are located on various terroirs in Morgon). He also produces Régnié and Beaujolais-Villages on the granite soils of Lantignié. The style has opened up over time, without losing sight of the expression of the terroir.
