“Red fruit on the nose, accented with hints of pepper. The tannins are a bit harsh, but it’s pleasant and best enjoyed young; however, the peppery character of the vintage is quite noticeable. Its terroir saves it somewhat, with an elegance that returns on the finish.” (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France) A great Morgon, ready to drink!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
Red fruit on the nose, accented with hints of pepper. The tannins are a bit harsh, which is pleasant—best enjoyed young—but the peppery character of the vintage is quite noticeable. Its terroir saves it somewhat, with an elegance that returns on the finish.
About the estate:
This iconic Beaujolais estate, renowned for both its history and its reputation, is a shining star in Morgon and throughout the Beaujolais region. The vineyard spans 13 hectares, five of which are located on the Côte de Py. At the helm of the estate, Claude-Emmanuelle and her brother Louis-Benoît, known for their rigor and attention to detail, are the worthy successors to a tradition of excellence. The latest vintages, combining finesse and richness, are always elegant.

Wine rated (2011 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the wine:
The 2008 Javernières is more intense and concentrated, but the structure remains just as tight and refined.
About the estate:
Anyone who has tasted a wine from the Desvignes siblings—Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît—has experienced a special emotion. Here, the pursuit of aesthetic excellence focuses on the subtle expression of specific vineyard sites (primarily in Morgon), the right balance of substance according to the vintage, and aging potential—all stemming from meticulous viticulture, sensitive winemaking free from dogma, and refined, wood-free aging. The third star has been pinned to the estate’s lapel for several years now, and given the consistency and coherence of the range, we suspect it will remain there for many years to come.

Anyone who thinks Beaujolais doesn't produce great wine would change their mind after tasting this one. Tasted again in 2016: Still just as good, but best enjoyed now.
