“A fine bottle from this vintage, offering a warm body with quality tannins and meticulous aging. Delicious; it’s best enjoyed after decanting. It’s well worth the price! ” (The Guide to the Best Wines Under €20 2013 – Gerbelle & Maurange)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2015 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A perfectionist, Stéphane Donze has set himself the demanding task of producing wines that far exceed the region’s usual standards. After purchasing the estate, he and his wife Lucie spent fifteen years closely studying and observing the layout of their vineyards. This painstaking work—always pushing the limits of risk—has enabled them to achieve perfect ripeness and great precision in their wines.

Excellent value for money, still quite tannic, with a nice finish. The last bottle was tasted in May 2016; it was quite round but lacked body, and tasted better on the second day after opening.

It must be a really good wine for those who didn't finish the box. Too bad!

Review by Mr. GOMEZ G. Published on June 2, 2013

The nose is subtle, not explosive, but very elegant and refined, dominated by blackcurrant and dark fruits, with floral notes (violet) against a backdrop of clean, spicy leather (cinnamon), menthol, and a hint of earthiness. Quite complex. On the palate, it goes even further, entering with fullness and smoothness. Good body and perfectly integrated, balanced acidity. Pure silk, flavorful and elegant.

A pleasant wine with fairly pronounced "oaky notes." It's a worthy wine. So I'm giving it a 4 to boost its average...
