These two magnificent wines represent the pinnacle of Médoc refinement and complexity ,as expressed by perfectly ripe and balanced great Cabernets. Its texture, mouthfeel, and silky tannins command admiration. Rated (2016 Guide) 5* Stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the estate:

Latour is one of the most famous estates in the Médoc, having, like Lafite, once belonged to the Marquis de Ségur. Acquired by François Pinault in 1993, the estate—which, with the exception of the second half of the 1980s, was the very embodiment of consistency—has not rested on its laurels. Under the guidance of its meticulous director, Frédéric Engerer, Latour has raised its standards even higher over the past fifteen years. The château’s grand vin has never been so harmonious from its very first vintage, and in exceptional vintages, it boasts a texture of incomparable density. The conversion of the vineyard to biodynamic viticulture, now well underway, should give it even greater brilliance. The château’s second wine, Les-Forts-de-Latour, produced largely from an independent vineyard, fully deserves the esteem in which it is held, thanks to its remarkable quality. A third wine, simply labeled Pauillac but made with a high proportion of press wines from the great terroirs, ages with panache and consistency. Since 2012, the château has ceased selling its wines en primeur, and the release of older vintages for the three cuvées produced has become the norm.

Rated estate (2016 guide): 3 stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the estate:

Owner of the estate since 1993, François Pinault has every reason to be proud of his investment. The wine ranks at the very pinnacle of the Bordeaux hierarchy; it has continued to demonstrate unfailing consistency for several decades. It is difficult to find fault with Latour, even in lesser vintages. It embodies the very essence of great Pauillac: full-bodied, rich, and complete, developing a complex and distinguished bouquet with age. There is no shortage of legendary vintages, and anyone lucky enough to have tasted the 1945, 1947, 1961, or 1982 knows what this fantastic terroir is capable of. The current director, Frédéric Engerer, faithfully upholds the uncompromising style. The complete overhaul of the cellars and technical facilities carried out in recent years, along with a rigorous selection process, has enabled the wine to reach new heights. At the same time, Les Forts de Latour has established itself as an equally extraordinary wine, surpassing many classified growths in refinement and depth. Finally, a third label, Latour’s Pauillac, also deserves the attention of wine lovers. It should be noted that since the 2012 vintage, the château no longer sells its wine en primeur, but only “on release” when the team deems it has reached maturity. A unique sales policy for a Grand Cru Classé.
