Château Bellevue 2008

Château Bellevue 2008

Ratings: Robert Parker 90+/100, RVF 16.5/20, Bettane & Desseauve 16/20, Guide Hachette 2** (Remarkable Wine) + Coup de Coeur
“The nose opens with notes of ripe grapes, accompanied by elegant oak. Then aromas of stone fruit, leather, and, more surprisingly, bakery take over. Powerful from the first sip, the palate offers a superb balance between the freshness and ripeness of the Merlot, all framed by solid, racy tannins that will need at least four or five years to round out.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2012)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This well-located vineyard is planted almost exclusively with Merlot, situated on a small south/southwest-facing plateau above Château Angélus, which owns half of it. Hubert de Boüard manages the estate and oversees the winemaking with the same determination and resources as at Château Angélus. A very ripe vintage yielding a harmonious, full-bodied wine, heavily oaked as a young wine (which excites some, but not us), one that is too often judged and enjoyed for its youthful vigor and, unfortunately, not enough for the depth of its clay soils, which produce Saint-Émilions of rare power on the palate.
