Domaine Guffens-Heynen - Mâcon-Pierreclos Le Chavigne 2004
From a plot known as “Vieilles Vignes, ” this cuvée is made from the second harvest of the young vines (harvested about 10 days after the first picking) and consists solely of free-run juice. It develops beautifully, with aromas of candied fruit (apricots) and an incredibly long finish. A richer, denser wine, yet the minerality is still there!

Bettane & Desseauve
5-Star Estate (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the estate:
Although he has inspired many artisan winemakers in the Mâconnais region, Jean-Marie Guffens remains, even today, the master craftsman capable of producing a “simple” Mâcon worthy of the finest wines of the Côte d’Or, without succumbing to the “terroir-for-profit” system. He is a master of fractional pressing using a vertical press on very ripe grapes, a proponent of extended fermentation, and a genius of aging; an elite taster, this unparalleled winemaker continues to produce on his small Mâconnais estate quantities that are already too limited to meet international demand.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)
About the estate:
Jean-Marie Guffens has mastered the art of winemaking and bringing out the best in Chardonnay. Tasting one of his vintages, even after ten years, is always a special experience. He divides his time between the estate’s haute couture winemaking, managing his wine merchant business Verget, his property Château des Tourettes in the Luberon, and Château Closiot in Barsac, where he produces great dry and sweet wines when the vintage allows. He has revealed the potential of the best terroirs in the Mâconnais and sparked interest in them. His great wines are universally acclaimed, stand the test of time, and leave a lasting impression. The very low yields of the 2019 vintage allowed for the production of only three wines; the pressings will be included in the Triangle cuvée. The estate’s wines are sold en primeur. Our advice is to take a chance on them while also exploring the other properties of this exceptional winemaker.

I drank three bottles of ... I don't remember anymore, but what I remember most is how disappointed I was with all three—simple ingredients, bland flavors, and no finish at all... Did I just get unlucky?
