Rating: RVF 14/20, Guide Hachette 1* (Very successful wine)
“Le Sous Roche is expressive and refined, with notes of fresh red fruit (strawberry, raspberry); it is powerful and full-bodied on the palate, with a lovely freshness that lends it balance and length. A bottle to enjoy now or cellared for three or four years. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2013)

Le Saint-Romain accompagne avec bonheur toute la volaille et le petit gibier a&#768; plume mais une viande rouge ne lui fait pas peur. Quand il atteint une dizaine d&rsquo;anne&#769;es, un bon plateau de fromage ne pourra que le mettre en valeur...<br/>

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Frédérick and Franck Buisson, whose family has lived in the village since the 12th century, represent the eighth generation of winemakers at this historic Saint-Romain estate. Certified by Ecocert since 2012, they practice viticulture and winemaking in the most natural way possible. The red wines, which always contain a small amount of whole clusters, offer a precise expression of their terroir, championing the rediscovery of a Saint-Romain that we have rarely seen at this level. The precise whites are no exception.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Frédéric, the winemaker, and Franck, the sales manager, run one of the largest estates in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Having practiced organic farming—certified since 2009—they made the transition to biodynamics in 2018. For the past ten years, they have been following the lunar calendar for their bottling. Diligent work in the vineyard and the cellar allows them to produce deep, distinguished wines that age well. This is an estate that beautifully showcases the Saint-Romain appellation in both red and white wines; the wines are refined, precise, and elegant. A range of wines that fully deserves its first star.

A wine bursting with red fruit aromas (even jam-like ones), despite its relatively young age. It has a surprisingly long finish (maybe because it’s my first Saint Romain?). I’m saving the remaining bottles for 2016; I’m sure it will only get better with age.

A classic Saint-Romain, with a deep ruby color and pronounced tannins. Wait until 2015 for it to fully develop its aromas.
