“This Cramant reveals all the nobility of the terroir through delicate notes of damp chalk and a rich bouquet of almonds and white flowers. The palate is a burst of the terroir, omnipresent, carried by bubbles of great finesse.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - Gault Millau)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2026 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Pierre and Sophie Larmandier, along with their son Arthur, have been cultivating 16 hectares using biodynamic methods for over twenty years. Few wineries, across all regions, can boast such consistency at this high level. The range is remarkably well-crafted and offered at reasonable prices. Among the estate’s legendary vintages, the “Vieille Vigne du Levant” is unquestionably a benchmark of the Côte des Blancs. The style features creamy textures where balance is a central focus. In this understated elegance, one often finds the very best the Côte des Blancs has to offer. A highly sought-after destination.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
Although his family hails from Cramant, Pierre Larmandier has settled in Vertus and produces wine from plots spread across the grands crus of the Côte des Blancs, in Cramant (the sumptuous Vieille Vigne du Levant cuvée), Chouilly, Oger, and Avize. The result is a magnificent Les Chemins d'Avize, produced since 2009. Stainless steel and barrels have given way to oak casks, in which vinification takes place without the addition of yeast. The range showcases the dedicated work in the vineyard (certified biodynamic).

Review by Mr. PIERRE G. Published on 12/25/2016
First bottle: 2014 = a quality wine in the range: ultra-fine bubbles, an expressive, refined, fresh Chardonnay with no artificial notes, a lovely hint of bitterness on the finish, and well-balanced. The other two (2002 and 2012): unbearable bitterness that is a deal-breaker. For the price, it’s a shame....
