Notes: Guide Hachette 1* (very successful wine)
“The 2008 Grande Cuvée white, aged in barrels, earns a star for its floral and apricot aromas and its generous character. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2011) Rich and complex, the Grande Cuvée white takes center stage in this 2008 vintage, where it expresses a beautiful, powerful fruitiness combined with refined aging.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2025 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Following in the footsteps of Bernard Durand, who oversaw Pic Saint-Loup’s transition from a mixed-farming operation focused on sheep to its recognition as a quality wine-growing region, his nephew Régis Valentin has taken over the technical reins. Without fanfare, this is an estate worth seeking out for its Vieilles Vignes cuvée—powerful yet flavorful—as well as its Clos des Combes and Grande Cuvée. The Cuvée Madame is even more ambitious, and the rosé is consistently delicious.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Régis Valentin, an oenologist and cellar master, took over the estate in 2001, which was founded in 1960 by the Durand-Valentin families. He produces wines from 80 hectares of vineyards (in the process of converting to organic farming since 2019) situated on a beautiful terroir of hard limestone and red clay. A sure bet in the Languedoc.
