Notes: Guide Hachette 3*** (Exceptional Wine) + Editor’s Choice, Gault Millau 15.5/20
“Winemaking methods rooted in a deep respect for the fruit have resulted in an exceptional wine, adorned with a golden hue and orange highlights. The intense bouquet opens with very ripe fruit and “roasted” notes. The velvety attack leads to a rich and smooth palate, perfectly balanced by the mineral liveliness of the terroir.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins). Perfect with foie gras!

Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommended wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Victor and Vincent Lebreton are true ambassadors of the Coteaux-de-l’Aubance. The brothers took over the family estate in 1986 and cultivate 60 hectares of vineyards across various plots and types of schist soil. This allows them to craft single-vineyard wines with subtle nuances, reflecting the character of the blue schist (Le-Tertereaux), gray schist (Clos-des-Huttières), or purple schist (Le-Clos-Prieur). A welcoming winery with reasonable prices. The range’s best wines come from the Aubance, as one would expect. The reds are simple and approachable, designed for immediate enjoyment.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 3***Étoiles (Exceptional wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the wine:
This estate, located just outside Angers, is an undisputed benchmark in the region and frequently receives accolades from the Guide. This cuvée is crafted from grapes grown on three types of schist: blue, gray, and purple. The meticulous harvest involves three rounds of sorting, with botrytised grapes harvested in 25-kg perforated crates. These methods, rooted in a deep respect for the fruit, have resulted in an exceptional wine, adorned with a golden hue and orange highlights. The intense bouquet opens with very ripe fruit and "roasted" notes. The velvety attack leads to a rich and smooth palate, perfectly balanced by the mineral liveliness of the terroir. For gourmet pairings, the choices are plentiful: fruit tarts, blue cheeses, dark chocolate mousse...
About the estate:
This estate, located just outside Angers, is a regional benchmark, particularly for its “Angevin delicacies,” featuring superb Coteaux-de-l’Aubance wines on the menu. At the helm of the estate founded by his grandfather, Victor, and developed by his father, also named Victor, Vincent Lebreton—who has been in charge since 1995—manages (with great care) 75 hectares of slate-schist terroir. The sixth generation now works alongside him.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2012 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good)
About the wine:
This is a wine that is unpretentious, refined, fresh, and well-structured. The nose opens with aromas of exotic fruits, candied citrus, honey, and subtle sweet spices. The palate is full-bodied, smooth, and dense. A subtle, balancing acidity lends elegance to a very lingering finish featuring notes of candied fruit.

Copper-gold color. Delicate citrus aromas with a hint of blood orange. Well-balanced on the palate. The sugar is well integrated, preventing any heaviness.

As a fan of sweet wines (Barsac, Sauternes, Quarts de Chaume, etc.), I’m sorry I didn’t order more... This wine offers incredible value for the price!!! (Drank it in 2015; it still needs a little more time to really open up...)

A lovely, well-balanced Chenin that’s enjoyable on its own or paired with foie gras or… Roquefort
