Clos Roussely
A dependency of the village castle since the 18th century, Clos Roussely was purchased by Anatole, Vincent's great-grandfather, who settled there as a winegrower and distiller. Marcel, the grandfather, then developed the vineyard and created a wine trading company in 1947. In the early 1980s, Jean Claude and Nicole, Vincent's father and aunt, devoted themselves to developing the trading company and left the vineyards of Clos Roussely in the hands of a local winemaker.
Vincent Roussely decided to take over the estate and the buildings of the former wine merchant in 2001. Since then, he has been working tirelessly to breathe new life into the place, renovating it to better welcome visitors and share his passion for wine. The vineyard is located in the heart of the village of Angé, overlooking the banks of the Cher River. Located in the Touraine and Touraine-Chenonceaux appellation area, it covers 8 hectares that have been certified organic since 2007. The estate's wines are unique in that they are vinified in troglodyte cellars carved into the tuffeau limestone beneath the vineyard. The oldest vines on the estate are 80 years old.
The clay-limestone terroir with numerous flints, as well as the temperate climate, allow the Sauvignon Blanc to express itself superbly. This grape variety accounts for 80% of the estate's surface area. The other grape varieties on the estate are Côt, Pineau d'Aunis, Cabernet Franc, and Gamay.
The soil is maintained with respect by plowing and scratching, without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical molecules.
The oldest vines are worked with the help of horses. Clos Roussely is committed to protecting the diversity of plant and animal life on the estate. As you stroll through the Clos, you may encounter horses, donkeys, and sheep.
