Rating: Bettane & Desseauve 15/20, Guide Hachette 2** (Remarkable Wine), RVF 14.5/20
“Draped in an elegant golden-yellow hue, this Bandol made from Clairette (50%), Ugni Blanc, and Bourboulenc delivers a bouquet that is surprising at first with its eucalyptus aromas, before an unrestrained wave of exotic, spicy, and honeyed notes washes over the palate. On the palate, it is full-bodied, creamy, and silky, with lingering notes of pineapple and pear. A delicious wine thanks to its intense fruitiness.” (Les Guides Hachette des Vins 2013)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

The estate is led by Michel Bronzo, supported by Stéphane Bourret, the technical director and a discerning wine taster. In just a few years, the estate has closed in on the appellation’s historic leaders. The consistency and intensity of its wines are the result of dedicated efforts, from the vineyard to the cellar, combined with a deep understanding of the terroir. La Bastide Blanche is situated on red clay soils, where the Fontanéou cuvée is produced, and on stony clay soils for the Estagnol cuvée. The wines have a composed, earthy character, deeply rooted in the land.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This estate, purchased in 1973 by Louis and Michel Bronzo, produces serious wines in all three colors, combining power and finesse. The 47-hectare vineyard, which is fragmented and primarily laid out in terraces, captures the geological diversity of the Bandol terroir. Stéphane Bourret, in charge of winemaking, produces robust reds, more earthy than maritime, as exemplified by the two flagship cuvées: Fontanéou (4,000 bottles per year), born of red clay terroirs, facing due east in La Cadière-d’Azur, from a blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache, is racy; Estagnol (5,000 bottles per year), grown on clay-limestone soils mixed with gravelly areas, offers a very ripe and opulent texture. Made primarily from Clairette and Ugni Blanc, the white wine is undoubtedly the most consistent and harmonious in the appellation. The older vintages available for sale allow you to appreciate the undeniable potential of the estate’s wines.
