Rating: RVF 17/20 (The 100 Greatest Rosés of France)
The Château de Bellet rosé is unique in that it is made entirely from the Braquet grape, a black-berried variety found exclusively in the appellation’s vineyards. Beneath its luminous color, this rosé offers traditional notes of violet and rose that carry through to the palate, which is structured and round, with a very long, distinctive finish punctuated by spicy and iodized notes. A true table rosé to enjoy any time of year!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Located on the Séoules hill, on the outskirts of Nice at an altitude of nearly 300 meters, the terraced vineyard benefits from sea breezes that temper the summer heat. After producing 47 vintages and establishing the renown and reputation of the Bellet appellation, Ghislain de Charnacé sold his 12-hectare vineyard in 2014 to the real estate management company La Française REM (which owns other vineyards). Considerable resources have been invested to restructure the vineyard, under the leadership, since the summer of 2018, of Jean de Laître, a talented master winemaker also active in the Bordeaux region. An ultra-functional winery at the foot of the old chapel now allows for winemaking that is closely attuned to the terroir. A new style is emerging, with a reorganization of the portfolio into three tiers (entry-level wines, terroir wines, and exceptional “agnès” cuvées), promising a bright future for this historic estate. The latest vintages reflect this positive shift.
