Domaine de la Janasse - Châteauneuf-du-Pape Prestige Vieilles Vignes 2011
Rating: Robert Parker 95/100
“In a very Burgundian style, the 2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée Prestige is composed of 70% Roussanne, with the remainder made up of Clairette and Grenache Blanc. It is vinified in new oak barrels and aged in barriques, then bottled within a year of harvest. The wine reveals an astonishing bouquet of orange marmalade, honeysuckle, apricot jam, rose petals, and tropical fruits. Full-bodied and pure, with the oak taking a back seat, it will drink well for several years, perhaps longer.” (Wine Advocate Oct. 2012 - Robert Parker)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2024 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Located on the finest terroirs of Courthézon, the Domaine de la Janasse—the pride of the Sabon family—has established itself for over 40 years as one of the appellation’s leading producers. Christophe Sabon produces Côtes-du-Rhône wines of the highest caliber, with a rare depth. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are expressed through various cuvées: Chaupin, from a cool terroir with a distinctly Burgundian character, or the Vieilles-Vignes cuvée, which is sunnier and more refined. Finally, the whites, though often overshadowed by the reds, are equally highly recommended. The entire range is impeccable, and the top cuvées rank among the appellation’s finest.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
A regular in the Guide, often highly rated for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône, and IGP wines. A 90-hectare vineyard spread across numerous plots, managed by Christophe Sabon and his sister Isabelle, the children of Aimé Sabon, who founded the estate in 1973. The estate was expanded in 2015 with the purchase of Clos Saint-Antonin and its 15 hectares of vineyards in the town of Jonquières.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
This large estate, which has been in the Sabon family for generations, ranks among the elite of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards are primarily located in the commune of Courthézon, with a variety of plots and soil types reflected in the different vintages. The estate also produces splendid (and high-volume) Côtes-du-Rhône cuvées from vineyards adjacent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. With often very high levels of ripeness, the wines are opulent in style, sometimes a bit too warm in sunny vintages. On the other hand, the tannins and textures are always of great finesse. In recent vintages, the wines have been less focused on richness and are slightly more approachable.
