Xavier Vins - Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Anonyme 2009
96/100
Robert Parker
“There are approximately 10,000 bottles of the 2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Anonyme. Its opaque purple color is matched by extraordinary intensity. Numerous notes of licorice, garrigue, maquis, blackberries, blackcurrants, and graphite are present in this full-bodied, fragrant, modern-style Châteauneuf. This voluptuous 2009 should drink well young and for the next 15–20 years.” (Wine Advocate 2011 – Robert Parker)

Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs equally well with refined dishes and heartier fare. Here are a few culinary suggestions to pair with this fine wine: rib of beef grilled over vine shoots, veal Marengo, duck with olives or roasted with figs, wild boar stew, pigeon salmis, seven-hour lamb, rack of lamb with sun-dried tomatoes, veal kidneys and sweetbreads, beef stew, hare stew, and of course various strong cheeses (Maroilles, Livarot...)

About the wine:
There are approximately 10,000 bottles of the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Anonyme, made from an unusual blend of 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, and 25% Counoise, Vaccarèse, and other authorized grape varieties. Its opaque purple color is matched by extraordinary intensity. Rich notes of licorice, garrigue, maquis, blackberries, blackcurrants, and graphite are present in this full-bodied, aromatic, modern-style Châteauneuf. This voluptuous 2009 should drink well young and for the next 15–20 years.

A wine that has mellowed with age. A lovely wine with good length. At its peak.

Very good; serve with game, as it has a very strong flavor. It will be even better in a few years.

Tasted in October 2017; it still has enormous potential "under the bottle," but is already quite enjoyable with proper decanting

I was quite disappointed by a wine that’s been racking up top scores from the critics...

Two out of six bottles were excellent, but the other four were corked and undrinkable. It’s a shame they use such poor-quality corks on bottles like these.

It has everything that makes for an excellent Châteauneuf-du-Pape, yet it’s still reasonably priced
