"Made from vines that are around 70 years old on a south-facing slope (one of the most famous in Condrieu), Niero's 2019 Condrieu Chéry is a textbook example, bursting with aromas of jasmine, hibiscus, ginger, and white pepper. There is a base of melon and pineapple, but this medium-bodied to full-bodied wine is more about flowers and complexity than rich fruit, reverberating with echoes of refreshing spices." About wine:

Made from vines that are around 70 years old on a south-facing slope (one of the most famous in Condrieu), Niero's Condrieu Chéry 2019 is a textbook example, bursting with aromas of jasmine, hibiscus, ginger, and white pepper. There is a base of melon and pineapple, but this medium-bodied to full-bodied wine is more about flowers and complexity than rich fruit, reverberating with echoes of refreshing spices.

About the estate:

Nestled in a small cul-de-sac in the heart of the village of Condrieu, Domaine Niero has only nine hectares of vines: four in Condrieu, two in Côte Rôtie, just over one in Saint-Joseph, and just under one in Crozes-Hermitage. There is also around one hectare dedicated to IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, both Syrah and Viognier. Although the clean and modern approach is undeniable, the wines are full of character and expressive of their different terroirs.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

The wine is full-bodied and fleshy, with a high degree of maturity that comes through in a slightly warm finish. Overall, however, it shows promise.

About the estate:

Since 2004, Rémi has been at the helm of this family estate, which boasts a beautiful range of terroirs in Condrieu, with 4 hectares divided into six plots. He also produces several Côte-Rôtie vintages from the Viallière and Bassenon terroirs, as well as a Saint-Joseph vintage, Bois Prieur, and another in Crozes-Hermitage. The wines are serious, rather classic, with sometimes a little aging that marks them during their youth.

Note and opinion by Mr. PHILIPPE P. Published on 12/11/2023

In this vintage, Rémi NIERO successfully combines the power of Viognier with a finesse that is not always found in this appellation. Tasted after four years, it can probably be kept for another one to two years.
