Notes: RVF 16/20, Robert Parker 90-91/100
“Laïs 2010 is taut, very elegant and understated, delightful with its mouth-watering, mineral-driven structure” ( Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - RVF). Maccabeu, white and grey Grenache grown on schist-covered slopes give rise to Laïs, fermented and aged in new oak barrels—used for one or two vintages—for eight to ten months. This wine can be enjoyed in its early youth, when the aromas and palate are lively, or you can wait to be surprised by its highly mineral evolution....

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2024 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
The brother of the famous Jo Pithon, a leading figure in the Layon hillsides during the 1990s, Olivier Pithon fell in love with the terroirs of Calce, where his journey began in 2001. A devoted biodynamic winemaker, he imbues his wines with a distinct identity—vines that are rich and easy to enjoy.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
This is the story of a winemaker from Anjou, who had spent time in Bordeaux, and who fell in love with the village of Calce in 2000. In 2001, Olivier Pithon found about 7 hectares in the area and immediately purchased his first biodynamic preparation to implement biodynamic practices. The estate was certified in 2010. Today, it spans 22 hectares across three areas with distinct geologies (schist, marl, and clay-limestone). The winery, built just outside the village, also allows the winemaker to produce his small-scale wine business using grapes from quality growers who share his philosophy. All the wines are full of charm, with very delicate textures on the palate and a lively energy. Always joyful, expressive, and juicy, these vintages develop extra body and tension compared to wines meant for aging. A benchmark estate.
