New vintage: the 2010 was rated: Gerbelle & Maurange 15/20
A delicious and wonderfully aromatic Gros Manseng cuvée, with notes of exotic fruits and candied lemon... A lovely acidity on the palate lengthens the wine and gives it balance. A typically Gascon sweet wine—exotic and smooth—that pairs perfectly with foie gras!

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Alain Brumont has forged his own distinctive style, sending wines from Madiran across the globe under the Château Montus label, which he acquired in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont’s vintages showcase his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, varying in composition from 20% to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château’s three cuvées—Prestige, XL, Montus, and La Tyre—and undoubtedly delivers the most spectacular profile of this challenging Pyrenean grape.

A fruit-forward wine (melon, peach), perfect as an aperitif or paired with fresh foie gras, offering excellent value for the price. JJW
