The 2008 vintage marks a resurgence for the Prestige cuvée, and it’s easy to see why, given how its generosity, harmony, and length will leave a lasting impression. The wine is more balanced than La-Tyre” (Le Grand Guide des Vins de France 2011 - Bettane & Desseauve)

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Alain Brumont has forged his own distinctive style, sending wines from Madiran across the globe under the Château Montus label, which he acquired in 1980. Often bucking conventional wisdom, Brumont’s vintages showcase his great freedom in interpreting terroirs with yellow and red clay subsoils, varying in composition from 20% to 40%. Tannat is featured in the château’s three cuvées—Prestige, XL, Montus, and La Tyre—and undoubtedly delivers the most spectacular profile of this challenging Pyrenean grape.
