d'Arenberg
d'Arenberg is one of the most important estates in McLaren Vale. Founded in 1912 by Joseph Osborn, this estate was passed down from generation to generation until the arrival of d'Arry in 1959 (Joseph's grandson), at the age of 16. He worked with his father until his death in 1957. In 1959, d'Arry Osborn decided to launch his own range of wines: d'Arenberg, in tribute to his mother Helena d'Arenberg. He added a red stripe to his labels to remind him of his school days (white and red uniform tie). Chester Osborn, d'Arry's son, joined the company in 1984 as cellar master.
d'Arenberg cultivates its vineyards (as well as those of its suppliers) using sustainable methods: minimal or no irrigation, no fertilizers, use of biodynamic preparations and the lunar calendar (with advice from Biodynamics Australia)... As for its cellar practices, d'Arenberg is the only estate to use a screw press for both white and red wines.
