Château of the Domaine de l'Eglise
The vineyards of Château du Domaine de l'Eglise lie in the shadow of the bell tower of Pomerol. It is one of the oldest estates in the appellation, with origins dating back to 1589. Owned by the Order of the Hospitallers and the Church, it was sold in 1793 as church property, remaining in the same family until it was taken over in 1973 by Emile Castéja. Its vineyard, located 500 meters from Pétrus, is primarily planted with Merlot. With a terroir of clay and gravel, and in the subsoil, the iron-rich soil of the heart of Pomerol, Domaine de l'Église produces full-bodied, round, captivating, and very elegant wines.
