Château of the Domaine de l'Eglise
The vineyard of Château du Domaine de l'Eglise lies in the shadow of the bell tower of Pomerol. It is one of the oldest estates in the appellation, with origins dating back to 1589. Owned by the Order of the Hospitallers and the Church, it was sold in 1793 as church property; it then remained in the same family before being taken over in 1973 by Emile Castéja. Its vineyard, located 500 meters from Pétrus, is primarily planted with Merlot. Grown on a terroir of clay and gravel, with an underlying layer of iron-rich soil from the heart of Pomerol, Domaine de l’Église produces full-bodied, round, captivating, and very elegant wines.
