Château Eglise-Clinet
Château Eglise-Clinet was established in 1882 when Monsieur Mauleon-Rouchut, the forefather of Denis Durantou, the current owner, combined various plots from the Clos de l’Eglise and the Clinet estate. Château Eglise-Clinet thus consists of a 4.5-hectare vineyard surrounding the Church of Saint-Jean in Pomerol, in the Bordeaux region.
Grown on clay-gravel soil, the vines at Château Eglise-Clinet benefit from the natural slopes of the plots and a century-old drainage system that prevents waterlogging. With an average age of over 40 years, the vines are 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Following daily tasting of the berries by a team of about thirty pickers, the harvest proceeds quickly thanks to the leaf removal and thinning carried out from August to September. After two to three weeks of fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months. This process results in Pomerol wines of great density, yet whose elegance places Château Eglise-Clinet at the pinnacle of the appellation.
