Château La Croix Saint-Georges Pomerol 2019

The delicate tannins, enveloped by well-structured body, unfold within a concentrated wine with a fresh finish that thoroughly won us over during our second tasting of this vintage.

The Janoueix family, one of the great wine-making families of the Right Bank, has always had a keen sense for the great wines of Pomerol. First and foremost, we must pay tribute to Marie-Antoinette Janoueix: in 1999, she had the excellent intuition to set aside four hectares of gravelly soil located in the heart of the clay plateau that were part of the Château-la-Croix estate. These high-quality plots are neighbors to prestigious estates such as Le Pin, Vieux Château Certan, and Petit Village. Her daughter, Marie-Jo Chabut, has skillfully taken over the estate and entrusted technical responsibility to her nephew, the talented Jean-Philippe Janoueix, who brings greater precision to the mid-palate and finish. We appreciate the dense and voluptuous attack that lingers with smoothness and energy; the truffle-like finish lends greater nobility to the wine as a whole.

This 4.5-hectare vineyard is owned by Jean-Philippe Janoueix, who also owns the Domaine du Sacré Coeur—also in Pomerol—as well as the Châteaux La Confession and Haut Pontet in Saint-Émilion, and the Cap d'Or and Cap Saint George vineyards in Georges-Saint-Émilion.

La Croix Saint-Georges belongs to the Janoueix family, which owns numerous estates throughout the Libourne region. Production has been taken over by the young and highly talented Jean-Philippe Janoueix, who has quickly elevated the wine to a style that is very full-bodied, velvety, and deep.

This wine embodies the profile of a warm, very ripe Merlot, with exuberant fruit, a concentrated palate, supple tannins, a certain richness, and an overall alcoholic character.

From the very first sip, La Croix St Georges presents itself as an inviting and alluring wine. The bouquet alternates between fruity, spicy, and woody notes. Its smoothness on the palate only serves to highlight the charm of Pomerol, while the tannins provide depth and power.

Deeply colored, this wine offers black and blue fruits, plum, cherry, smoke, licorice, and a hint of truffle on the nose. Silky, fresh, and lively, with lush textures, ripe tannins, sweet fruit, and cocoa on the palate.
