"A blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, the deep purple-garnet colored 2016 Fugue de Nenin reveals jammy plums, cooked black berries, and black cherries complemented by notes of cigar boxes and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and bursting with layers of black fruit and menthol notes, this wine has a long finish." (Wine Advocate 2018 - Robert Parker) A racy, fresh 2016 vintage.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2019 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

The purchase of the property in 1997 by the Delon family enabled Nénin to regain its status, which it has easily surpassed in recent vintages. While 2015 promises to be magnificent, the 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, and 2010 vintages are also stylish. The purchase of part of Certan-Giraud at the end of the 20th century enabled the estate to benefit from one of the best terroirs in Pomerol. Much less demonstrative than most of its peers, it is made for aging and is constantly evolving. The persistent tannins stretch out beautifully, with lots of energy and a superb floral and spicy finish.

Rated estate (2019 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

The Delon family, owners of the illustrious Château Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien and Château Potensac in Médoc, purchased this large estate in 1997 and made every effort to restore it to the highest quality. They undertook major work, reaching a new milestone in 1999 with the expansion of the vineyard through the purchase of half of the former Château Certan Giraud (the other half belonging to Jean-Pierre Moueix, under the name Hosanna). The wines produced here have a classic style; they are often a little harsh and austere when young, but they develop remarkably well. The quality of the wines continues to improve thanks to radical selection (generally only 30 to 40% of production goes into the grand vin). The latest vintages are all recommendable, more accessible in their youth without losing any of their depth or class. With prices remaining reasonable, these are very good buys for lovers of pure, distinguished wines.

Powerful yet supple on the palate. A good Pomerol that reflects its terroir, with a slightly bitter dark chocolate finish. But it's still far too young, that's for sure! I wanted to see how long it could be stored. Verdict: Enjoy in 2026!
