Sine Qua Non
Elaine and Manfred Krankl moved from Austria to the United States in the 1980s. They worked a series of odd jobs while producing their own garage wine on the side. In 1994, Robert Parker tasted their first vintage and awarded it a score of 95/100; from the very start, Sine Qua Non became famous.
Sine Qua Non produces Rhône-style wines, with vineyards planted primarily with Syrah and Grenache, but also Petit Manseng, Touriga Nacional, and Graciano—varieties they believe also embody the Rhône style.
Having received multiple 100/100 Parker scores, Sine Qua Non is a temple of wine.
