Champagne Thierry Massin - Extra Brut Blanc Vrai La Chevêtrée
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
“The estate, which already boasts two ‘ Favorites ’ awards, has earned two more this year: one for a 2023 Coteaux-Champenois, and one for this rare ‘Blanc vrai’—another name for Pinot Blanc—which is the other (little-known) specialty of the Côte des Bar, a region better known for its Pinot Noir. Harvested in 2022 from a 30-are plot, 90% of which was vinified on lees in tanks and 10% in barrels, this blanc de blancs—born of a sunny vintage—needs no dosage whatsoever. It delights with a nose that opens up to white flowers and exotic fruits, followed by an elegant, mineral, crisp, and fresh palate—slightly smoky—with aromas of white fruits. Perfect as an aperitif or with delicate seafood appetizers.” (Le Guide Hachette 2027)

About the wine:
The estate, which already boasts two “ Favorites,” has earned two more this year: one for a 2023 Coteaux-Champenois, and one for this rare “Blanc vrai”—another name for Pinot Blanc—which is the other (little-known) specialty of the Côte des Bar, better known for its Pinot Noir. Harvested in 2022 from a 30-are plot, 90% of which was vinified on lees in tanks and 10% in barrels, this blanc de blancs—born of a sunny vintage—needs no dosage whatsoever. It delights with a wide-open nose of white flowers and exotic fruits, followed by an elegant, mineral, crisp, and fresh palate—slightly smoky—with aromas of white fruits. Perfect as an aperitif or paired with delicate seafood appetizers.
About the estate:
A tributary of the Seine, the Arce winds its way through the Côte des Bar (Aube). On its slopes, siblings Thierry and Dominique Massin have been cultivating a vineyard since 1974—a vineyard established during their grandfather’s time—which today spans 12 hectares, 9.5 of which are planted with Pinot Noir. Their respective children, Thibault and Violaine, have joined them.
