Almansa

Almansa
Almansa is a municipality in the province of Albacete, in the southeast of the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain. The production area of the Almansa designation of origin is located immediately north of the Yecla and Jumilla designations, on the Levantine plateau. It comprises eight municipal territories: Almansa, Alpera, Bonete, Corral Rubio, Higueruela, Hoya Gonzalo, Petróla, and the district of El Villar de Chinchilla, all in the east of the province of Albacete. Viticulture in theAlmansa area dates back to the 16th century and defines a wine region with an average altitude of around 700 meters.

The late Mario Bonete Piqueras, a renowned producer throughout Spain, was responsible for the emergence of this designation in 1975. A designation that aims to reflect impeccable quality and the search for a distinct and assertive identity. Today, the Almansa DO enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide.

Almansa wines are characterized by intense aromas and color, high alcohol content, and high extract. They generally have a lot of body and low acidity. The dominant terroir is limestone, and the total vineyard area is approximately 7,600 hectares, mainly planted with Monastrell, Garnacha Tinta, and Garnacha Tintorera. Almansa wines are produced using controlled fermentation temperatures to obtain high-quality wines intended for the production of high-quality Crianza and Reserva red wines. The terroir also produces white and rosé wines. The excellent work of Bodega Piqueras and Hacienda El Espino allows the terroir's qualities to be fully appreciated.
