Cicadas
Cigales is a wine appellation in the Castilla y León region covering 2,700 hectares. Cigales is the smallest appellation in the region. The terroir of Cigales consists of clay and marl, as well as sand and gravel. The continental climate, with an oceanic influence, is characterized by long, harsh winters and hot, dry summers. The harvest runs from mid-September to early October.

The grape varieties in Cigales include Tempranillo, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot for reds, and Verdejo, Albillo, and Sauvignon Blanc for whites. The Cigales appellation produces wines in all three colors—white, red, and rosé—as well as sparkling and sweet wines.
