Rating: Robert Parker 96/100
"The 2009 Celler Cal Pla Mas d'en Compte is a blend of 50% Grenache (over 100 years old), 40% Carignan, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. An incredible wine, offering a deep purple-ink color and flavors of raspberry jam, sweet blueberry, blackcurrant, crushed stone, graphite, and spring blossom. Astonishing richness and intensity with a magnificent palate and a full-bodied finish, which perfectly characterize this brilliant, if not prodigious, Priorato." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

Compared to Parker's glowing reviews, I'm rather disappointed by this Priorato. Admittedly, the nose is very pleasant with aromas of jammy fruit, notes of cinnamon and vanilla. However, on the palate, the wine's sweetness overwhelms everything else, so much so that it almost feels like drinking a Banylus or a Port. Ultimately, the wine is so dense and sweet that it becomes rather indigestible. Clearly, Parker's interpretation is peculiar and full of bias...

There, you get a taste of luxury vacation. What genius could have found something other than gas in the local shale? The excellence of Collioure, but on the Spanish side of the border. It's worth the finest food, shared with the best friends.

A deep, dense, robust wine. Very Spanish, then... The value for money is undeniable. It's a style, and it doesn't surprise me that Parker gave it 96 points. In my opinion, that's too much, but to each their own. Nevertheless, it remains a remarkable wine.
