Robert Parker

"The 2011 Creta Roble is a 100% Tempranillo aged for 4 to 5 months in French and American oak, made from old vines over 60 years old. An exceptional wine, a Ribeira del Duero bursting with fruit, featuring notes of licorice, blackcurrant jam, pencil shavings, espresso, and hints of toasted oak. Full-bodied, very fruity, and ripe, it will be best enjoyed over the next 2 to 3 years.” (Wine Advocate – Robert Parker)

It takes a while to open up, with the tannins overpowering the fruit.

For some reason, Parker overrates and overhypes Spanish wines. He must know a thing or two about business. One day it’s the best wine in the world; the next, an exceptional bottle. This one has a pleasant character, is full-bodied to perfection, but very rustic, and by no means can it be considered an extraordinary wine. You can drink it without shame, but without making a big deal out of it.

Still a bit young, but full of promise—a complex wine with a beautiful deep color, aromas of red fruit and a hint of vanilla, a very nice finish, and pleasant to drink... even when young.
