Hachette

Hachette Guide rating: 3*** (Exceptional wine) + Favorite
"Efforts rewarded by this Favorite celebrates a beautiful 2011 vintage with an intense, almost black color. The nose releases generous aromas of very ripe, almost candied black fruits, heralding a round, full-bodied and long palate, supported by silky and delicate tannins. A wine that is perfectly in tune with its appellation, to be opened in a year or two with game or red meat in sauce." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

About wine:

Gilles Sorin has been managing this 18.5-hectare family vineyard since 1995. Keen to produce wines that faithfully reflect the taste of the grapes, he takes particular care of them from the vineyard to the cellar: grass cover, aeration of the bunches, manual harvesting, no yeast or chaptalization... His efforts have been rewarded with this Favorite celebrates a beautiful 2011 vintage with an intense, almost black color. The nose releases generous aromas of very ripe, almost candied black fruits, heralding a round, full-bodied and long palate, supported by silky and delicate tannins. A wine that is perfectly in tune with its appellation, to be opened in a year or two with game or red meat in sauce.

A very long wine with lots of extraction, but without heaviness (no wood). Good maturity. Very surprising for a Loire wine—excellent value for money.

The bottles drunk in their youth were very alcoholic and really strange (frankly disappointing). Those drunk in 2016 and 2017 were sublime. Black fruits, compote, pepper. Excellent value for money, but you had to wait for it and be lucky enough to open it at the right time.

Review and opinion by Mr. YVES D. Published on 03/31/2016

Very disappointed with this Anjou village. A certain harshness, too tannic, I'm not sure how it will improve if left to age in the cellar. This is the first time a wine purchased from you has disappointed me so much. It just goes to show that you shouldn't take the opinions of guides such as Hachette and others as gospel.

Quite a lot of tannins, very extracted on the palate, unpleasant bitterness and an alcoholic finish.

A pleasant surprise for this unusual Anjou wine. Full-bodied, long on the palate, and with a touch of subtlety.

The first bottle was too tannic and had a pronounced earthy taste. Wait at least six months to hope for a better surprise.
