Bettane & Desseauve
Rated Estate (2014 Guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire lineup)
About the estate:
“Luc Sorin, a native of Burgundy, settled in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer in 1994, on clay-limestone soils where he produces a range of Côtes de Provence and Bandol wines. The white Sergine cuvée showcases the Rolle grape variety. It will surprise you with its power and is best enjoyed young, while its fruit is still fresh. The “Privée” cuvée is dominated by Syrah, and the Bandols are traditionally built around Mourvèdre. Both the rosé and red Bandols offer more body here than the Côtes de Provence wines.”

Rated Estate (2008 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the excellence of French wine production.)
About the estate:
“The Sorin estate produces wines under both the Bandol and Côtes de Provence appellations. Luc Sorin, originally from Burgundy, took over the estate in 1994 and produces full-bodied, colorful rosés, as well as structured, rich red wines. We commend the pursuit of maturity and concentration across all the wines. However, some of the red wines show slight over-extraction and a lack of freshness, resulting in a lack of elegance.”
