Domaine de Beaumalric - Beaumes de Venise 2015
89-91/100
Robert Parker
“The 2015 Beaumes de Venise is well worth the wait, offering sublime notes of ground pepper, ripe red fruit, and a hint of minerality in a medium-bodied, full-flavored, and beautifully concentrated style. It has tremendous charm and could become an extraordinary wine!” (Wine Advocate 2016 – Robert Parker)

Good value for the money. It seems quite strong on paper (14.5%), but when I tasted it, I found it to be rather light. It has fruitiness and body. It might lack a bit of length on the palate.

A brilliant garnet color. The rich, harmonious nose reveals notes of blackberries, spices, and violets, while retaining a lovely freshness and a certain richness. The very fruity attack continues into a spicy mid-palate, finishing with subtle peppery notes, all with lovely freshness. It is a straightforward wine. The palate is full-bodied with firm yet crisp tannins. Very nice structure. A bottle that truly embodies the spirit of its appellation; it would benefit from being cellared for another year, as the alcohol is still noticeable.

The southern Rhône has its Gemshere’s one: a Beaumes de Venise from a sunny vintage, ensuring it will age well to soften the tannins...

Harsh and unappealing, falling far short of expectations. A disappointment.

A good Côtes du Rhône at a reasonable price. Lovely aromas and a nice finish. It’s ready to drink now but can also be cellared; the 2015 vintage must have something to do with it.
