Beaumes-de-Venise
The Beaumes-de-Venise appellation is a Rhône Valley appellation that was granted AOC status in 1937 and designated a "Cru des Côtes du Rhône" in 2005. The vineyards are located on the south-southeastern slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
The primary grape variety in the Beaumes-de-Venise AOC is Grenache Noir, which must account for at least 50% of the blend, while Syrah is the secondary variety, comprising a minimum of 25%. Additional varieties such as Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and other varieties authorized in the Rhône Valley may be included, with up to 10% white grape varieties permitted.
The character of each wine fromthe Beaumes-de-Venise AOCis shaped by the terroir: the nature of the soil, its exposure, and the prevailing climate are all essential factors in determining the quality of each wine from each vineyard plot. The red wines of the Beaumes-de-Venise AOC come from three major terroirs: the Triassic soils, the white Cretaceous soils, and the gray Jurassic soils.
Respect for the environment and the quality of the wines are the top priorities for the 100 winemakers who make up the Beaumes-de-Venise AOC.
