Ruth Castle
Château de Ruth is located in Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes, northeast of Orange, in the heart of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône wine region. The estate is one of the oldest in the Rhône Valley, with its name first appearing in 1561. During the reign of Louis XIV, it housed a convent, the ruins of which still stand today. It was successively owned by several illustrious families (including Maurice Trintignant, the famous race car driver, and the Beauharnais family, direct descendants of Empress Joséphine).

Vincent Moreau, a winegrower-owner in Cairanne, Rasteau, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, was captivated by the beauty of Château de Ruth and the quality of its vineyards, and purchased the estate in 2010. He devotes all his expertise and enthusiasm to crafting high-quality wines from the fabulous terroirs of the southern Côtes du Rhône. The vineyard now spans 110 ha, primarily within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations. Vincent Moreau has carried out extensive restructuring of the vineyard to bring out the best in this excellent terroir.

Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan—the latter grown using the gobelet training system on the estate’s higher slopes—have an average age of 80 years. The grape varieties for the white wines are Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier. Round and fruity, Château de Ruth’s wines reach full maturity as early as the year following the harvest, and the reds can be cellared for 5 to 10 years, depending on the cuvée.
