Château de Ruth
Château de Ruth is located in Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes, northeast of Orange, in the heart of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône wine region. The estate is one of the oldest in the Rhône Valley, as its name first appeared in 1561. Under Louis XIV, it housed a convent, the ruins of which still remain. It was successively owned by several illustrious families (Maurice Trintignant, the famous race car driver, and the Beauharnais family, direct descendants of Empress Joséphine).
Vincent Moreau, a winegrower-owner in Cairanne, Rasteau, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, captivated by the beauty of Château de Ruth and the quality of its vineyards, acquired the estate in 2010. He devotes all his expertise and enthusiasm to crafting quality wines from the fabulous terroirs of the southern Rhône. The vineyard now covers 110 hectares, primarily in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, and Côtes-du-Rhône appellations. Vincent Moreau has carried out significant restructuring work on the vineyard to bring out the best of this excellent terroir.
Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan—the latter grown in goblet-trained vines on the estate’s higher elevations—have an average age of 80 years. The grape varieties for the white wines are Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier. Round and fruity, the wines of Château de Ruth reach full maturity as early as the year following the harvest and can be cellared for 5 to 10 years for the reds, depending on the cuvée.
