Principality of Orange
The IGP Principauté d'Orange is a regional wine covering the area around the city of Orange, based on the boundaries of the former territory of the Princes of Orange (1230-1793). To qualify for the Principauté d'Orange Protected Geographical Indication , wines must be made from grapes harvested within the territory of the communes located in the cantons of Bollène, Orange, Vaison-la-Romaine, Valréas, and the commune of Courthézon, totaling 36 communes in the Vaucluse department. The conditions for this designation were established by the decree of March 5, 1981.

The quality of wines marketed as IGP Principauté d'Orange is often more concentrated than that of other regional wines. IGP Principauté d'Orange wines represent almost 20% of the total production in the department, and are primarily blended wines. The results can be surprising, as exemplified by the wines offered by Domaine de la Janasse.
