“A lovely expression of Syrah”

“The 2023 Saint-Joseph Parady, medium-bodied to full-bodied, is lively and expressive, opening with pronounced aromas of ripe black fruit, cedar wood, and mint. Built on fine tannins, the concentrated 2023 vintage offers striking density and depth, allowing the palate to relax with notes of graphite in a long finish.” (Vinous 2026)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100

About wine:

A highly aromatic style, with dominant notes of violet at this stage. Fuller on the palate, rounder and more powerful than this producer’s Saint-Joseph, with a slightly higher alcohol content and slightly lower acidity. Surprisingly ripe and generous for a 2023 vintage, with a lovely velvety texture. From a high-altitude vineyard located in the hamlet of Le Paradis in Mauve, planted in 2001.

About the estate:

The Gripa family arrived in Saint-Péray in the 17th century, then settled in Mauves around 1850. A sure bet in the northern Rhône Valley, both for its Saint-Péray and Saint-Joseph wines (as evidenced by the numerous Favorites in both appellations), the estate has been run since 2001 by Fabrice Gripa, son of Bernard, who now manages 18 hectares of vineyards.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Fabrice Gripa continues his father's work in the Mauves estate, which produces as many white wines as reds. He is a master of his craft, producing a range of wines with strong personalities. The whites are represented by four cuvées: two Saint-Péray and two Saint-Joseph. The reds are fruit-forward, with integrity and admirable aging. A consistent estate producing wines of very high quality.
